Differences

  1. You are a woman of grace, but I am a man. You suffered harsh times as I didn't experience what you went through. You worked in cotton fields as only I could just think of what it felt like, when I found that my parents were slaves once. You got yourself out to the world through media and pictures, when I had to work my way there by traveling and finding ways to record myself.

  2. Madam, we both are women from the same time, but we are very different. First of all, you are an African-American woman, while I am not. You went through many more hardships and struggles than I did, that's for sure. Another difference between you an I would be the fact that you had no mentor. I did have many various mentors, including my mother, my vocal teacher, and my good friend Richard Strauss. You also said that you didn't need a mentor. I strongly disagree with you. I know that I personally needed a mentor to become successful. Without someone to help me along the way, I wouldn't have made the many artistic discoveries I've been so fortunate to uncover. I would have been lost, and not know what to do. I feel that everyone must need at least one mentor somewhere in their life, because it's always helpful to have someone there to help you along your way of life. Other than that, we are fairly similar. Hope to talk to you more at dinner!
